We once read an excerpt from a book from the 1890s describing a beautiful princess who one day joined other divers for a pearl hunt. She had to go incredibly deep into the sea to find black oysters and on the way up, nearly out of breath, the princess saw a shark circling between her and the surface. Terrified, her lungs screaming for air, the princess made the only decision she could – to drown so she wouldn’t have to feel the horrific pain and agony between a shark’s jaws.
